Post's Calcium Matte

This grid is an exploration of my favorite matt glaze.

I have used the glaze from grid location #7 for the last couple of years with a variety of colorant combinations.

The glazes on this grid look different on vertical test tiles. After I run a grid, I dip test tiles of the glazes that look interesting. Vertical test tiles reveal a different side of each glaze.

The glazes in the upper right corner are similar to oil spot glazes in that they are high in alumina and silica. The colorant in this grid is iron which tends to precipitate to the surface of the glaze creating that boiling oil spot look.
