Raku Animals

These are the Raku animals that came from our firing. In this lesson kids could make any animal they liked as long as they remembered to score, slip and smooth the parts together. There is a little poem I teach the kids to remind them about the process for joining clay.

It goes...

Scoring is boring,
but I make lots of lines, slipping is dipping,
I like it just fine,
smoothing is soothing,
it relaxes my mind

Then I tell the kids that if they follow through and use all of these steps, that they can relax and know that their project will make it through the firing process OK.
