Clay Polar Bears

An art teacher friend of mine asked me for help creating a clay polar bear. She was having trouble determining what main form to tell kids to create first for the body. The form that ended up working the best was the cone form. Kids created a large Hershey Kiss form for the body. To make the head, they just bent the tip over at a 90° angle. We dipped these bears in a white glaze and then the kids applied Amaco black underglaze LUG-1 to the eyes and nose. Even though it's called underglaze, we apply it over the top of the white glaze and it works.
