Elephants are fun to make because they have that massive trunk and ears. The key to making these with kids is to have them make the ears thick enough so that they hold their shape and don't fall off as the elephant dries. I have the kids create spheres and then tell them to flatten them to the thickness of a hamburger, not the thickness of a sheet of paper. The kids add the trunks and tusks last so that they don't bend it around too much while they are making the elephant. After they add the trunk, the kids bring them up to me so I can set them on a tray and put them in the kiln room.
