Egyptian Jackals

It's amazing just how many different symbols represent birth and death when it comes to the art of various cultures. The Egyptians used the jackal as the basis for their got of the deat Anubis. He was believed to escort people into the afterlife. Students in my 4th and 5th grade classes created clay jackals as we explored symbolism and world cultures. The jackal image to the left is visually bold because of the strong geometric forms the young artist used to create it.
